Day 8 of 100 Day Challenge

Day one of junk journal prep.

I have three books to fill, maybe a little assembly line?

I’ve cut out the old signatures – and of course saved them for use in other projects 😉

I have a VERY large collection of paper for the new signatures already – even some from my dads old stash, so it’s going to be fun to put them together.

My plan is to prime the covers tomorrow and let them dry while I make a few piles of different papers and envelopes etc.

I’ll likely take a look at a YouTube video or two as well and I’ll be sure to share which ones I watch as well…I’d love to watch some now but it’s getting late…

In the past I would have stayed up til the wee hours crafting but I just can’t function as well during the day when I do that now. I never thought I’d see the day when I’d be heading to bed before midnight but that day has arrived!

So – Good night! <3

Day 7 of 100 day Joyful Creativity

Mandala doodle on book page.

Week one is done!

The biggest accomplishment would have to be getting the website up and running on day one.

What did I learn this week?

I think I’d like to start a project. It was good to muckaround with the wire and origami and mandalas are a fave for me but the randomness wasn’t as rewarding as I’d like.

I’ve been researching junk journals for the last few months and I have pretty much everything I’d ever need to make one (or a thousand!)

I love the idea of using old books, magazines, scrapbooking materials, stickers, stamps, fabric and junk mail to create a a funky journal.

There are some crazy, beautiful, detailed, ephemera filled journals out there in the world. That may be why I haven’t tried to make one yet. It’s a little intimidating!

This is a good time to move past the fear. I have some ideas to make them unique but the first one will be basic so I can get it finished fairly quickly. Hopefully another outcome of the 100 day challenge!

So next week will be about picking a cover, paper and figuring out how many signatures it will take to fill it. I’m feeling pretty excited about it! It’s been on my to do list for a long time 🙂

100 Days of Joyful Creativity –

September has always felt like a fresh start for me – maybe because I’ve spent the better part of my life in a school setting or because it’s my birth month, either way today felt like the day to start something big…

And since it’s also Labor day I’ve decided to birth 100 days of Joyful Creativity.

AND 100 days feel like A LOT of days!!

It’s not a new challenge, I’ve heard about it for quite awhile, but knowing myself quite well (since I’m hedging upon my 57th birthday!) my first thought has always been “I don’t think so!!”

But it’s time to shake things up, I’ve fallen hard off the creativity wagon for the last year or so. I’ve done a few little projects – collage, crochet, mandalas and a little wire bending but nothing consistent.

I know I feel better when I create but lately I’ve been more concerned with how good it will be. Gone are the days of playful creativity with no worries of how well it will turn out.

Is this because of all the amazing art I see on social media? Everyone’s highlight reel – without the explanation of the years it’s taken for them to become so talented? Or because they aren’t showing the shitty first drafts?

I promise that’s not going to happen here. The next 100 days is going to be full of bad art and craft projects and I’ll be MuckenAround with many different mediums because I just can’t decide what I want to do!

I’m making this pledge to myself – the joy will be had in the process, not the end product.

Day one – done! One blog post, one broken wire word!

P.S. I’d love some company! Maybe you want to start your own 100 day Joyful (insert your challenge) and let me know how it’s going! You can find me MuckenAround on Instagram and Facebook 🙂
